The UPF climbs 42 positions in the QS World University Rankings

[18/09/12]

The Pompeu Fabra University went up 42 places in relation to last year’s QS World University Rankings, going from 308th to 266th position. The Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and the University of Barcelona (UB) are among the best 200 in the world (176th and 187th, respectively), while the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) is in 350th position.

The QS World University Rankings, one of the most prestigious, is prepared annually by Quacquerelli Symonds (QS), and assesses over 2,000 institutions, including 700 universities worldwide.

In relation to the rest of Spain, the centres which appear are the Autonomous University of Madrid (206th), the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) (226th), Carlos III University (343rd) and the University of Navarre (359th). After the 400th position, the ranking places the universities in blocks of 50, so the Polytechnic University of Valencia appears in the 401-450 block; and the Polytechnic University of Madrid, Granada, Salamanca, Santiago de Compostela and Valencia Universities appear in positions 451-500.

The University of Saragossa is in the 501-550 group, and the University of Seville from 551-600, while the Universities of Alcalá and of Murcia are after 600th position.

On the international scene, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) snatched first place from Cambridge, while Harvard was the world’s third university. The MIT was catapulted into first position thanks to its excellent results in citations, in students per professor and to the increase in its international faculty.
