Lecturer Gabriel Hormaechea receives the Esther Benítez Literary Translation Prize

Gabriel Hormaechea, a Literary Translation lecturer at the IDEC-Universitat Pompeu Fabra, received the seventh Esther Benítez Prize on 2 November after votes were cast by members of ACE Traductores, for his fantastic translation into Spanish of Gargantúa y Pantagruel, by François Rabelais, which was published in Barcelona by the Acantilado publishing house.

Gabriel Hormaechea is a lecturer on the Master’s in Literary and Audiovisual Translation course, as well as both the face-to-face and online Postgraduate Programme in Literary Translation at the IDEC-Universitat Pompeu Fabra. He also works as a translator and lecturing professor in the Department of Translation and Language Sciences at Pompeu Fabra University.

ACE Traductores created the prize in 2006 in homage to Esther Benítez, the founding member of the association and its chairperson for many years, who was a prestigious translator herself, as well as a tireless campaigner for literary translators’ rights.

ACE Traductores awards the prize every year for the translation of literary works in any language and of any genre, into Spanish, Catalan, Basque or Galician. The works must have been published for the first time the year before the prize is awarded.
