The UPF-IDEC Master in Scientific Communication, training with professional recognition

In recent months, former students of the Master in Scientific, Medical and Environmental Communication offered at UPF-IDEC, in collaboration with Obra Social “La Caixa”, have been making the news, due to assuming positions of responsibility in leading organizations and companies in the science sector.

Rosario Martínez is one of the most recent examples, PhD in Chemistry, former student of the last edition of the Master and former collaborator of the UPF Science Communication Observatory, she has just been named Head of Scientific Communications in the communications department of the Institut Català d’Investigació Química (ICIQ).

Another two former students of the program are taking part in the new European project, RRI Tools, a project to foster Responsible Research and Innovation for Society, with Society. They are Guillermo Santamaría, former student of the ninth year of the Master program (class of 2004), who has been working for more than 6 years at the “La Caixa” Foundation as Manager of Scientific Dissemination Activities and is now the manager of the new scientific project, and Daniel García Jiménez, former student of the eighteenth year (class of 2013), who has joined the European RRI Tools project to carry out the development of content for digital tools, the training of trainers and internal communications.

Moreover, this past February, María Trenzado, a former student of the class of 2007, was named scientific communications and press coordinator of the Instituto de Investigaciones Biomédicas August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS), the biomedical research centre associated with the Clínic Hospital of Barcelona, while Àlex Argemí, class of 2002, was appointed Director of Communications of the Institut Català de Nanonciència i Nanotecnologia (ICN2).

The Master in Scientific, Medical and Environmental Communication, taught by Professor Vladimir de Semir, will soon be celebrating its 20th edition. During this time, over 450 participants from more than 20 countries have gone through the program. Many of them currently hold prominent positions in the field of scientific communications. Since 2013, the Master is also offered in an online format.
