The Public Prosecutor’s Office of Catalonia will accept internship students from the UPF-IDEC Master in Legal Practice

[15/04/14]

Students on the Master in Legal Practice, at UPF-IDEC will be able to take their curricular internships as from this academic year 2013-2014, at the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Catalonia. The rector of the UPF and president of the Private Foundation Institute for Continuing Education, Jaume Casals, and the Public Prosecutor of Catalonia, José María Romero de Tejada y Gómez, signed a cooperation agreement in order to allow students to carry out their internships. Also present at the event, Ramón Ragués, professor of Criminal Law at the UPF and head of studies of the Master in Legal Practice; Ana Magaldi Paternostro, Chief public prosecutor of Barcelona Province, and Jorge Navarro, representative for training at the Barcelona Bar Association (ICAB).

These internships will allow students to get an insight into the real-life work of the Public Prosecution in diverse areas such as the economic context, Patrimony, or Environmental protection, among others. They will be performing professional tasks of a legal nature, with the objective of expanding their learning and building the necessary competences and skills required to become a practicing lawyer.

During their period of stay at the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Catalonia, the students will have two tutors: one public prosecutor designated by the Prosecutor’s Office and one lecturer from the master, both of whom will be making the final evaluation of their work.

A master program with a bridge to the professional world

The Master in Legal Practice at UPF-IDEC has been running for four years, before Law 34/2006 came into effect in October 2011, regulating access of lawyers to the profession. The program is supported by the Barcelona Bar Association (ICAB) and by the main professional bodies in Catalonia, four of which (Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira, Garrigues, Uría Menéndez, Baker & McKenzie and Roca Junyent) form part of its academic council and contribute to defining its structure and content, as well as being especially involved in student training.
