UPF is among the top 300 universities in the world according to QS World University Rankings 2015-2016


The 2015-2016 edition of the QS World University Rankings, has been published; a list of 700 universities around the world prepared by the company britància Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) where UPF is positioned 295 (up three places from the previous edition) with clear improvement in two of the indicators used to compile the rankings: International faculty and Faculty appointments.

Pompeu Fabra University retains sixth place within the universities of Spain, behind the universities of Barcelona (Position 166), Autonomous University of Madrid (186), Autonomous University of Barcelona (190), Complutense of Madrid (226) and Navarra (265) and it ranks 133 in the European context.

Fuente: QS World University Ranking As for the top ten rankings, there is enough balance between the universities of the USA and Great Britain (with a ratio of 5:4), and there is only one institution outside these two countries, which is the ETH Zuruch - Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in ninth position.

The ranking is led by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Harvard, Cambridge and Stanford Universities, the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and the University of Oxford.

Improved faculty appointments and internationalization

The ranking evaluates the quality of research and teaching, hiring graduates or the degree of internacionalitzación of each centre, among others. Of the six indicators used, UPF (which scored an average of 42.6) has improved considerably in International faculty (score has risen from 67.7 to 80.7) and Faculty appointments (rising from 43.9 to 51.4).

The score obtained by the University in the other indicators has been fairly stable and is as follows: Academic reputation (42.4), employer reputation (31.4) International Students (39.8) and Ratio students / faculty (30.3).

As for the relative value given by the ranking to each of these indicators, it highlights the Academic reputation (with 40%); Faculty appointments, Ratio between faculty and students and Faculty appointments (all three 20%); Employer reputation (10%) and International Students and Faculty (both 5%). The two indices that refer to reputation, both academically and as employers, are determined from a survey.

Other QS classifications are the best young universities (Top 50 Under 50 Years), where in the 2014 edition UPF occupied position number 31, and the rankings by subject (QS World University Rankings by Subject), with the fifth editionpublished in 2015 highlighting studies in the field of Economics at UPF in general position 23.
