Yacht racer Laia Tutzó, student on the Master's in Sports Management and Direction, sets up the Association of Female Olympians

[04/11/10]

Yacht racer Laia Tutzó, who took part in the 2009 Olympic Games in Beijing and who is also a student on the Master's in Sports Management and Direction (2009-10) at IDEC-Universitat Pompeu Fabra, has set up the Association of Female Olympians under the name Athenai together with Neus Garriga (sailing competitor at Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004) and Paola Triados (synchronized swimmer at Sydney 2000, Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008).

Athenai, The Association of Female Olympians
The Athenai project will use different sports to organise talks and seminars in which female Olympians can reveal what competing in the Olympic Games has meant to their professional and personal lives. The association also aims to become a think tank for the development of variations in sporting disciplines which can be practised easily by the whole population. Another facet of Athenai is to promote the exchange of experiences between Olympic athletes.

The founding members of the project (Laia Tutzó, Neus Garriga and Paola Triados) seek to create a framework of reflection between the vertebral axes of women and sport and to develop activities around what the future holds for Olympic athletes once they have retired from high level competition.

Laia Tutzó and the Master's in Sports Management and Direction
Another of the challenges overcome by Laia Tutzó is her completion of the Master's in Sports Management and Direction at IDEC-Universitat Pompeu Fabra. This Master's covers the functional aspects of businesses and delves into the fundamental concepts of sports economics, law and sponsorship. The course also provides a thorough analysis of the management and direction of sports businesses, the organisation of events and the management of clubs and foundations.
