Adan Kovacsics, lecturer on the Postgraduate Programme in Literary Translation at IDEC-Universitat Pompeu Fabra, has received the 2010 National Translation Prize awarded by the Ministry of Culture for his work as a translator.

In addition to this prize, Adan Kovacsics (Santiago de Chile, 1953) has received numerous distinctions for his translations from Hungarian and German. He was awarded a prize from the Austrian Ministry of Education and Culture for his translations of Karl Kraus. At the end of 2004, he was awarded the Ángel Crespo Prize, one of the most prestigious in Spain, for his translation of the novel The Sinistra District (Alcantilat, 2003) by the Transylvanian Hungarian author Ádám Bodor. He was also awarded the II Imre Kertész Translation Prize (2007) and the ?Pro Cultura Hungarica Prize? by the Hungarian Government.

Since 1991 he has worked almost exclusively on literary translation and has written essays on Hungarian and Austrian literature, most notably Guerra y Lenguaje (War and Language) (Alcantilado, 2008).

After 25 years dedicated to the field of translation, this expert in literature believes that it is time to turn his attention to training new translators. With regard to the situation of translation in Spain, he states that ?some recognition has been given to the work of the translator, but there is still a long way to go. We are much overlooked?.
