Barcelona, 7 April 2011.- Andreu Mas-Colell, Economics and Knowledge Minister for the Catalonia Government, inaugurated the first edition of the Barcelona Management Spring Meeting. Co-organised by the Asociación Española de Directivos (AED), the Club Excelencia en Gestión and IDEC-Universitat Pompeu Fabra, this initial meeting was highly successful, gathering together more than 200 senior executives from companies around the country.

In his participation, Mas-Colell emphasised the need to make a common front in times such as these, calling on the common interests of all authorities. The minister took advantage of the occasion to transmit a vote of confidence.

There followed a series of interesting debates including speakers such as Juan María Nin, Chief Executive Officer of “la Caixa”; Juan Soto, Honorary Chairman of Hewlett Packard España; Rosa María García, former chairwoman of Microsoft Western Europe and Pedro Navarrete,Senior Vice Chairman of SONY Europe , among others.

Nin called on the role of executives to deal with the management of organisations humbly and to assume the value added by the new generations better adapted to the changing environment in which we live.

Rosa María García was convinced of the innovating capacity of our country, which needs to be suitably channelled to come to fruition in view of a panorama subject to constant transformation.

Navarrete referred to the current situation in Japan, stressing hope as the differentiating factor between success and failure, as well as their capacity to move on.

The objective of the Barcelona Management Spring Meeting is to open up a new leading debate forum on future business management challenges and trends. Each year the meeting will gather together in Barcelona the main players in business management in our country.
