The Sónar Festival selects projects created by students of the University Master in Digital Arts

[24/05/12]

Several projects created by students of the University Master in Digital Arts have been selected to be shown at the UPF-SonarPro exhibition as part of the Sónar Festival, to be held in Barcelona from 14 to 16 June.

The UPF-SonarPro exhibition is being held during the festival for the first time, in the space previously occupied by SonarMàtica. The exhibition aims to display pieces with links to Pompeu Fabra University, either through the University Master in Digital Arts at IDEC-UPF, the Music Technology Group doctorate or the Phonos Creativity Scholarship. The pieces on display take the form of interactive installations and incorporate music as a central element.

This first exhibition will include the following student projects from the Master’s in Digital Arts:

6DOS - Six Degrees of Sound by Daniel González Franco: An interactive system for binaural audio recording that modifies sound depending on the listener's position.

Final Master’s Project for 2009-2010.

Gengen by Daniel González Franco, Javier Guajardo and Rocío Márquez: A musical and visual generation instrument that works on the basis of movements made in the air that are then captured by a sensor and projected onto a screen.

Final Master’s Project 2009-2010. In 2010 it won the Golferichs Grant for Visual Arts production.

U-Beat by Giampaolo Costagliola: A movement sensor for mobile devices that interprets gestures while the user runs or dances to generate musical feedback. Developed in partnership with the graphic artist Daniel Gonzales.

Final Master’s Project 2010-2011

Prefall135 by Katerina Antonopoulou, Rodrigo Carvalho and Javier Chavarri: An audiovisual installation that generates sound and graphics from the energy produced by water, which the user can manipulate with taps.

The PREFALL135 project originally arose from the Visual and Musical Interaction module in the 12th year of the Master’s programme (2008-2009). That same year it won the PHONOS Grant for Young Creators, through which it evolved and was perfected.

The exhibition can be visited on Floor -1 of the CCCB as part of the SonarPro section of the Sónar Festival, from 14 to 16 June 2012, from 12 noon to 8 pm. Further information can be found at: www.sonar.es
