The UPF consolidates its position among the hundred best Economics centres of the world

[30/05/12]

The University of Tilburg (Netherlands) has prepared the Top 100 universities which are leaders in Economics research, a ranking calculated from a database which contains the works published in the 68 most important reference journals in the spheres of Econometrics, Economics, Statistics and Finance, in the period 2007 - 2011. It therefore includes the scientific production of the lecturers from the Department of Economics and Business in the period considered.

In this worldwide classification, for the period 2007-2011, being positioned in 43rd place, the UPF consolidates its position among the 100 best universities in the world, is the first university in Spain and the tenth among European universities.

Many of the lecturers from the Department of Economics and Business combine their teaching duties at the UPF with academic management, coordination and teaching at the Barcelona School of Management and at IDEC-Pompeu Fabra University.

The second best rated university in Spain continues to be, in comparison with the 2004-2008 ranking, the Carlos III University of Madrid, which comes in 53rd place, followed by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, which is in the 98th position of the ranking.

Paying attention to the top ten in the worldwide classification, we can see that the ranking is clearly dominated by American universities, specifically Harvard, Chicago, New York, California-Berkeley, MIT, Stanford, Columbia, Yale, Northwestern and Pennsylvania, in this order.

In relation to Europe, the first institution to appear in the Top 100 is the London School of Economics and Political Science (United Kingdom) which occupies the eleventh position, followed by Oxford (United Kingdom) in 14th position and Tilburg (Holland) in 21st place.

The Internet accessible application allows the scientific production to be consulted by country, for each of the centres and for each of the publications considered in the ranking.
